After being fined £40,000 for accepting bribes while he was Lord Chancellor, Francis Bacon devoted his life to science and knowledge. He died from a severe cold in 1626, which he is said to have contracted while attempting to stuff a chicken with snow in an early attempt to invent frozen food.
