It only takes three minutes of work for the average German to buy a bottle of beer

A study by the IW economics institute in Germany reports that the average German worker needs to work five hours less than he did 20 years ago to earn enough money to pay for a suit.

On the other hand, he needs two hours' more work than in 1991 to earn enough to fill up a car.

This adds up to a net saving of three hours' work when buying a suit and filling up a car, and since only three minutes' work is needed to buy a bottle of beer, he can therefore afford an extra 60 bottles of beer.
