PERU

Peru is the only country whose name can be typed on a single row of letters of a typewriter.

It is also the only country on earth with place names that begin with a double-Q (Qquea, Qquecquerisca and Qquero are all places in Peru) and is the world's second greatest fishing nation - its annual catch is exceeded only by China.

The currency of Peru is the new sol, a modern relic of the sun worship of the ancient Incas.

The world's worst soccer riot occurred at a Peru-Argentina match in the Peruvian capital, Lima, in 1964 after an unpopular decision by the referee. It ended with 300 fans killed and more than 500 injured.

The Interior Ministry in Peru has banned chili sauce and hot spices from prison food because they might arouse sexual desires.

The prisoners may prefer the camu-camu fruit, which grows in the Peruvian rain forest, and has the highest vitamin C content of any food, around 60 times that of oranges.
