A mosaic by the Albanian artist Saimir Strati depicting five musicians broke the world record in 2011 for the largest mosaic made of coffee beans. Strati used 309 lb (140 kg) of coffee beans, some roasted black, some averagely roasted and some not roasted at all, to create the image of a Brazilian dancer, a Japanese drummer, a U.S. country music singer, a European accordionist and an African drummer.
The size of the work was just over 25 square metres. Strati has also made a portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci with nails, a galloping horse out of toothpicks, the Mediterranean Sea with corks from wine bottles, Michael Jackson with paint brushes and the Greek poet Homer with industrial screws.
