Despite spending four years painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo always thought of himself primarily as a sculptor and was irritated whenever he was described as a painter.

On 1 August 1995, the High Court in Hong Kong ruled that Michelangelo's sculpture David is not obscene.
