In terms of total biomass, the Antarctic krill is perhaps the most successful animal species on Earth. The total weight of these little shrimps is about 380 megatonnes compared with about 350 megatonnes for humans.

Both ants and termites outweigh krill or humans, but each of them comprises thousands of species.
