KNICKERS

Following the execution of Edith Thompson in 1923, at which a great deal of blood was spilled through internal haemorrhaging caused by the jolt of the noose, all women hanged in Britain were required to wear special knickers made of canvas. Only 17 women were hanged in the UK during the 20th century.
