FLEMING, Ian (1908-64)

The author of the James Bond books, Ian Fleming, was the son of Valentine Fleming, the Conservative MP for Henley and a step-cousin of the horror film actor Sir Christopher Lee.

His illegitimate half-sister was the celebrated cellist Amaryllis Fleming.

He once owned a passport that had belonged to the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.

He is believed to have taken the name of James Bond from a book on Birds of the West Indies written by an ornithologist of that name.
