CENSUS

In the 1871 Census in Britain, the final question asked whether the people named were:
1) deaf and dumb;
2) blind;
3) imbecile or idiot;
4) lunatic.

This question remained unchanged in 1881, but in 1891 the last two sections were combined into a single section:
3) lunatic, imbecile or idiot.

In 1901 and 1911 the categories were changed to:
3) lunatic;
4) Imbecile or feeble-minded.

In 1911, the first two categories were expanded to:
1) deaf and dumb;
2) dumb only;
3) blind, while the remaining ones became:
4) imbecile or idiot;
5) lunatic.
