BYRON, Lord George Gordon, 6th Baron Byron of Rochdale (1788-1824)

Byron was born lame and developed a club foot.

Despite this, he played cricket at Harrow, using a runner, and was a fine swimmer. He kept a pet bear in his rooms at Cambridge, because he was not allowed a dog.

He wore his hair in curlers at night. When Byron's coffin was opened in 1938, his lame right foot was found to be missing.
