Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams died at the age of 49 on 11 May 2001; Spencer Perceval, the only British PM to have been assassinated, died at the age of 49 on 11 May 1812. William Pitt the Elder died on May 11, 1778, but not at the age of 49.
